Australian Product Guide exists to make product research easier to understand, easier to compare and easier to finish. The problem is rarely a shortage of information. It is that specifications, retailer listings, “best” lists and promotions often leave shoppers doing the hard work of deciding what actually matters.

Why we built it

Australian Product Guide is being developed as an Australian product-decision layer: search in ordinary language, narrow the market around your priorities, compare meaningful trade-offs, inspect the evidence and then move to a retailer without restarting the research process.

The problem we are trying to solve

Two products can both be good and still suit very different households. Price, space, workflow, maintenance, ecosystem compatibility, feature priorities and personal preferences can change the answer. Australian Product Guide therefore avoids pretending that a single universal ranking can resolve every purchase.

How Australian Product Guide works

1. Search naturally

Search by model, brand, category, use case, budget or comparison intent.

2. Narrow by what matters

Category filters and Help Me Choose journeys turn priorities into a smaller maintained set.

3. Understand the difference

Product and comparison pages foreground strengths, compromises and fit rather than raw specification volume.

4. Inspect and act

Evidence provenance and retailer pathways remain visible so a shopper can verify claims and continue to purchase.

How we research products

For maintained products, Australian Product Guide prioritises Australian manufacturer product pages, manuals and other primary evidence for stable model identity and feature claims. Retailer evidence can support exact local variants and availability. Most current guidance is desk-researched and specification-based; Australian Product Guide does not claim laboratory or hands-on testing it has not performed.

How recommendations are calculated

Recommendation tools use explicit category signals or deterministic rules. The coffee-machine finder has the deepest structured model; other maintained finders are intentionally simpler. “Best match” means the strongest fit to the answers supplied within the maintained dataset, not a claim that the product is universally superior.

How we handle affiliate relationships

Australian Product Guide may earn commission from qualifying purchases after a shopper follows an eligible retailer link. Those relationships are excluded from suitability calculations. A product can be included without a monetised link, and an exact retailer link does not make it rank more highly.

Editorial independence

Independence here means the evidence and fit system is separated from the monetisation system. It does not mean Australian Product Guide has no commercial model. Paid links are labelled and the operating rule is documented in the Affiliate Disclosure.

Our approach to evidence

Every maintained product has an evidence source, testing-status label and review date. Missing evidence is not filled with a guess. Product imagery is also provenance-controlled: third-party photography is displayed only when the source and permitted delivery mechanism are recorded.

Our Australian focus

Australian Product Guide prioritises Australian model identity, local retailer pathways and Australian price presentation. It distinguishes stable product facts from volatile stock, seller and pricing information that shoppers should re-check at the retailer.

Corrections and updates

Material errors should be corrected in the structured product or retailer record first, then propagated through affected comparisons and finder outputs. See Corrections, Coverage and Updates.

How the platform is developing

Australian Product Guide currently maintains 257 products across 48 populated categories. Evidence depth is deliberately transparent: 37 products have deep evidence and 220 remain starter evidence. Australian Product Guide does not invent scale or authority: there is no claimed review community, testing laboratory, award history or national market leadership. The priority remains deeper product evidence, lawful imagery, exact retailer precision, product freshness and decision utility rather than superficial catalogue growth.

Contact

A dedicated public venture contact channel has not yet been activated. Australian Product Guide will not publish a private personal address merely to make the site appear larger. The current Contact page explains the correction and retailer-order boundaries.
